Ibrahim Adjei, the Assistant Secretary at the Office of the President, has called on Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the owner of Wontumi Radio and TV, to take action and reprimand his staff for spreading disinformation to the public regarding the elections.

In an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, November 25, 2024, Adjei condemned Oheneba Nana Asiedu's actions as criminal and scandalous, accusing him of deliberately using his platform to disinform the public.

According to him, Chairman Wontumi must take decisive action and address the issue with his presenter, as such behavior could tarnish the station's reputation and damage its brand.

“Radio presenters like Oheneba Nana Asiedu need to be reprimanded. This is an opportunity for the radio station itself and I’m talking to Chairman Wontumi, that at the end of the day, it's your name and brand that’s been carried. We’re mentioning Wontumi Radio which is your name, so, you should exercise that executive leadership and whip the presenter in line, separate from what the police may or may not do moving forward,” he said.

Adjei further highlighted how Oheneba Nana Asiedu's deliberate disinformation on radio could potentially disenfranchise Ghanaian voters, preventing them from exercising their civic duty on December 7, calling on them to disregard the false information.

“It is criminal, scandalous and doesn’t do anything to really build the Ghana project. Everybody is a stakeholder in this democracy that we have so our actions and inactions, where they are contrary to the constitution. What he did was contrary to section 208 1960 of the criminal offenses act 29 which is about spreading false rumors that may cause fear and panic or raise alarm and it's something that is against public well-being.

“Here you are on radio and we saw what happened in Rwanda. He is attempting to disenfranchise people ultimately, that’s what he is looking to do by spreading false information. The election is on one day - December 7, unless there is a run off and so nobody should be confused," he advised.

Adjei urged the police to take the case seriously, considering the potential dangers it could pose, and not to treat it lightly, so it can serve as a deterrent to others.

“I’m hoping that the police won't treat the case with kids gloves because all it takes is a matchstick to cause a consequential fire. There’s tension but not hypertension where we fear the outcome of the elections,” he added.
