Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the Former Minister of Energy, has publicly endorsed former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most capable candidate to lead Ghana.

In an exclusive interview on GHOne TV with Serwaa Amihere on December 18, Opoku Prempeh emphasized that his support is grounded in Bawumia’s experience, intellect, and proven track record within the party.

He stated, “Of all the candidates, the one who stands tallest, the most prepared and most winnable is Dr Bawumia. I have supported him long before he contested, and my backing is not motivated by personal ambition but by his capabilities.”

Addressing criticisms and comparisons within political circles, Opoku Prempeh highlighted that some civil society actors who once opposed government policies are now holding positions themselves.

He stressed the importance of integrity, saying that individuals should remain true to their values rather than seeking political favor.

He stressed the importance of integrity, saying that individuals should remain true to their values rather than seeking political favor.

The former minister also defended the achievements of President Akufo-Addo, citing landmark initiatives such as the Free SHS program and Ghana’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic as examples of visionary governance.

He insisted that historical judgment will ultimately vindicate the government’s policies.

On potential political promises, Opoku Prempeh clarified that his support for Dr Bawumia is not based on any expectation of being appointed to a position if the vice president becomes the party’s flagbearer.

“Those who compete for leadership must be evaluated on merit, experience, and capability,” he said. “Dr Bawumia meets all these criteria, and I believe he is the best candidate to lead our party and Ghana in the future.”
