DPP appeals for financial support

Sunyani, June 5, GNA - The Democratic Peoples' Party (DPP) intends to embark on a nationwide fund-raising tour to solicit for financial support towards an effective electioneering campaign. Mr. Thomas Nuako Ward-Brew, flag bearer, told the GNA in an interview on Thursday that more than 3,000 invitation cards had so far been given to party executives in Brong-Ahafo and Volta regions to be distributed to the public.

He said the party had contributed in promoting the country's democratic dispensation by participating in bye-elections in Offinso, Fomena, Nkoranza North, Wulensi constituencies, among others. "The party needs financial support to make it vibrant in nurturing Ghana's infant democracy", Mr. Ward-Brew said. He appealed to the populace to help promote the development of a political party that sought to protect the welfare and enhance the livelihood of the people.

The flag bearer called on regional and constituency executives to demonstrate unity of purpose and understanding in organising the fund-raising rally for the party to get resources to compete effectively in the December polls. Mr. Ward-Brew appealed to NGOs, public-spirited individuals, philanthropists and Ghanaians both home and abroad to support the party.

When contacted, Mr. Evans Ofori Mensah, Brong-Ahafo Regional youth organiser, confirmed that the regional branch of the party had received more than 1,200 invitation cards from the party's national executive. Mr. Mensah who is also the press secretary said the regional executives would meet constituency executives to decide on the venue for the rally in the region.
