A sod-cutting ceremony has been held at Nkawkaw for the commencement of Urban Five Projects in the Nkawkaw township. The first phase of the project, which has been started, includes the rehabilitation and tarring of a number of principal streets of Nkawkaw.

Speaking at the function, the Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Hon. Kwabena Adusah Okerchire, praised the NPP government for a number of development projects it has initiated in the area and hoped that all the projects would be completed before the 2004 elections.

He hinted that the Nkawkaw Secondary School (KAWSEC) has been chosen to be improved to be one of the well-endowed secondary schools in the country. He also mentioned the proposed new district for Nkawkaw as some of the government's moves to develop the area.

He used the occasion to advise his political opponents who are using falsehood to tarnish his image and said "while trying to destroy the MP as a person, it is the NPP government they claim to be part they are destroying."

He told the gathering that he would continue to concentrate on his moves to bring practical development to the area, no matter what his opponents will say or do to tarnish his image.

The MP wondered why professed NPP members would go round to spread falsehood about their MP and cast insinuations about their government. He therefore urged the people to be wary of such people and be committed to the party and the government.

The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Mr. Raymond Osafo Djan, praised the MP for the efforts he made to include Nkawkaw in the Urban V programme and the creation of new district for the area.

He called on the people to cooperate with the government and the district authorities in all their developmental drives for the benefit of all and sundry.

On his part, the special assistant to the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, expressed the joy of the people for the good things the NPP government is bringing to the area which was neglected over the years because of the people's opposition stand to the previous government and urged the people not to make any mistake in sending the area to opposition again.

He called for total support and prayers from the people to enable the government to fulfill all its electioneering promised.

The chief of Nkawkaw Zongo, Alhaji Osuman Mohammed, praised the government, the MP and the DCE for fulfilling their promises to the people and pledged the cooperation of the people at all times.

The ?3.3billion project will be executed by Adehyeema Industrial Complex Limited. It will use nine months to complete the project.
