Ashaiman,(Greater Accra Region) 17 Oct. '98 Nii Armah Ashietey, Tema Municipal Chief Executive has called for concerted efforts by security agencies and the public to rid Ashaiman of criminals. He said thugs should not be allowed to operate with impunity to the extent of destroying government property and attacking people going about their normal duties.
Nii Ashietey made the remark when he inspected damage caused to the Ashaiman office of the Ghana Fire Service by a mob during a fire outbreak at Ashaiman last Friday.
The mob action followed their claim that the firemen rushed to the scene of the fire-outbreak with tools without water to fight the fire.

Alhassan, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Tema and Mr Franklin Aheto, MP for Ashaiman stressed the need to clamp down on thugs in area so that people can move freely without fear. He commended the police for arresting a number of people in connection with the act and asked the Tema Municipal Fire Officer, Mr Solomon Osei to submit a list of items damaged by the mob for replacement.
Mr Alhassan said Ashaiman has been identified as a problem area saying the police would undertake surprise swoops to bring the criminals to book.
Mr Aheto called for installation of more hydrants in the township for easy accessibility to water in time of fire. GRi
