Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reiterated his confidence in Vice President and presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the man destined to lead and transform Ghana.

The former President, who has not hidden his admiration for Dr. Bawumia, stressed his confidence in the vice president again and restated his convictions about the readiness of Bawumia to lead the country.

Credited with playing a role in propelling the vice president to the deputy governor position of the Central Bank, former President Kufuor confirmed in an exclusive media engagement with Ghanaians how a young Bawumia wowed an international conference in London in 2003 and how the "young man" excellently played various roles at the Bank of Ghana in the economic revival of Ghana during his government.

"I have observed all those contesting, and I have confidence in him that he is the one who can transform this country," President Kufuor said.

"When you look at his trajectory and where he is coming from, I have a strong feeling within me. It is not all about what the eye sees; there is the spiritual aspect," President Kufuor added.

"He was not a politician. When you look at where he started, what he has done and where he is now. He was not a politician and did not start as a politician."

"But in today's politics, it is not only the politics. Democracy is there but it also is about technocracy, that is dealing with engineering, economics, technology, etc."

"At this stage of our nation's life, if we get someone who understands all these things and is able to hold the nation together, I tell you, within 5 to 10 years, Ghana should be able to stand on her feet."

"I believe the young man Bawumia has the vision to do that."
