Unemployed jailed four years for stealing

Accra (Greater Accra), 26 June, A thief who smashed a television set he had stolen and inflicted wounds on the owner for attempting to arrest him, was today jailed four years by an Accra circuit tribunal for stealing.

Kofi Adu, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, unlawful entry, stealing and causing harm.

The tribunal chaired by Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Yeboah, commended the Police for doing their best to protect life and property especially in the night.

Police Inspector Joseph Anneh Kwame, told the tribunal that Adu and a gang on the night of June 18 in the North Kaneshie area raided the house of Mr. Seth Asare, a businessman after he had retired to bed locking all doors and windows.

The gang entered the hall and picked a television set but luck was not on their side, Mr. Asare woke up, raised the alarm and gave them a hot chase. The gang with the exception of Adu, who was in possession of the set bolted. Sensing danger, the prosecution, said Adu smashed the set and attacked Mr. Asare.

Neighbours and police on duty inthe area a the time rushed to the scene and arrested Adu while Mr. Asare was sent to hospital.

The prosecution said Adu has refused to name his accomplices. gri.
