Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has refuted widespread claims that a future NDC government would dismiss police recruits currently undergoing training in the Ghana Police Service.
Speaking to a crowd of party supporters at a mini rally in Sekondi on Monday, November 25, 2024, Mahama described those spreading such rumors as propagandists and accused them of being members of the New Patriotic Party.
The former president disclosed how some recruits were allegedly dismissed from various security agencies when the ruling party came to power, simply because they had been recruited under an NDC government.
“Some members of the NPP are spreading false information that a future NDC government will sack police recruits. I want to assure you that these claims are lies and have no basis in truth. We are not like them, who dismissed military and police recruits when they came to power. Because of that, they assume we will act in the same way,” he said.
Mahama assured Ghanaians of his commitment to ensuring that all recruits are inducted into the security agencies and to address the concerns of personnel in the sector.
“I want to reassure all recruits in the security agencies that they will continue their training and will not be dismissed. We will also recruit our own people into the service.”
Ghanaians will head to the polls on December 7, 2024, to cast their ballots for the presidential and parliamentary elections.
