A senior political advisor to Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change(M4C), has sharply criticized former President John Agyekum Kufuor's recent endorsement of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the best candidate for Ghana's presidency.

Nana Ohene Ntow argued that Kufuor's assessment of Dr. Bawumia's achievements as Vice President and head of the Economic Management Team (EMT) was flawed.

Mr Ntow questioned Dr. Bawumia's economic track record, noting Ghana's debt-to-GDP ratio has surpassed 80% under his leadership.

"It can never be the case that, in Ghana's current economic situation, Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate," Mr. Ntow stated, arguing that Kufuor's endorsement lacked a balanced evaluation of Dr Bawumia's record compared to Mr. Alan Kyerematen and former President John Mahama.

He highlighted Mr. Kyerematen's extensive impact on African trade and development, contrasting it with Bawumia's achievements as Vice President.

"Alan has a record of impacting the whole of Africa," Ntow said, questioning what specific achievements Dr. Bawumia could showcase on a similar scale.

Mr. Ntow also took issue with Kufuor's description of Bawumia as "just a driver's mate" in government, calling it an "unfortunate" comparison that undermined the role of Vice President.

"For someone of Kufuor's stature to liken the Vice President's role to that of a driver's mate is troubling.

Was his own Vice President a driver's mate?" Mr. Ntow asked, calling on Mr. Kufuor to consider the constitutional significance of the Vice Presidency.

He said this in an interview with Accra-based Okay FM on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
