The President-elect John Dramani Mahama has stopped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth from besieging the re-collation centers.

Ghana’s 2024 general elections, held on December 7, 2024, were marked by high stakes and intense competition, with 12 political parties vying for power. The polls were largely peaceful, but the calm was short-lived.

As the Electoral Commission of Ghana declared the presidential results, jubilation turned to dismay and disputes erupted over some parliamentary seats. The disagreements led to violent clashes between supporters of different parties, particularly the NPP and the NDC.

The situation remains tense, with many calling for calm and respect for the democratic process.

According to sources at President-elect Mahama’s office, he wants the leadership of the NDC to utilize the court system to address any grievances they may have regarding the election.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress, Mustapha Gbande also weighed in on the issue, affirming the party’s stance on the issue, reaffirming the party’s position.

According to Mr. Gbande, the party leadership has devised a strategic plan, which includes a directive that no supporter or sympathizer should engage in or incite destructive behavior during the Electoral Commission’s re-collation exercise.

“This morning EC will be doing the illegal exercise of re-collation of results. In view of the directives from leadership, I would want to repeat that each and everyone should withdraw. We are not going to be part of what is going to happen, no party supporter should go there, no sympathizer of the party or H.E John Mahama should go there,” he noted

He continued, “Anyone who believes in the rule of law should not also go there. This retreat is strategic. President Akufo-Addo does not mean well, he is bleeding and wants to ensure that he orchestrates evil. No one will give him the opportunity to achieve that. Let us stay calm, tactical, and strategic. We won the elections, and in the next few days, H.E Mahama will be President of Ghana. We will have the majority in parliament. Colleagues, your commitment alone is enough, let us stay put for further actions.”
