The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has said that his administration will implement a national zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment and domestic violence.

The initiative is a bold step towards addressing the issue of gender-based violence in the country.

He said, "We will implement a national zero-tolerance policy on sexual

harassment and domestic violence. We reject the notion that women should suffer in silence."

This statement was made during his speech at the launch of the NDC’s women manifesto on September 30, 2024.

Considering the rate of the number of women in the country facing different gender-based violence which is 27%, the NDC flagbearer emphasised the urgent need to address the issue to safeguard women from abuse.

John Mahama noted that it is imperative to set up regional shelters to provide immediate protection and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

He added that he is committed to providing a comprehensive care, including medical, psychological, and legal services, to help survivors heal and rebuild their lives.
