No "Apio" On Election Day?

Drinking bar operators asked not to operate on Election Day
Kasoa (C/R), Nov. 3, GNA - Mr. Vincent O. Quarcoo, National President of Ghana Bar Operators Association (GHABOA), has asked members of the association not to open their drinking bars and spots on Election Day, December 7, 2008. He said that would forestall any situation where people would decide to drink and cause confusion at polling stations on Election Day. Mr Quarcoo, who made the appeal at the inauguration of the Kasoa branch of the association on Saturday at Kasoa, also urged members to abide by the electoral laws that debarred them from operating on Election Day.
The president said as an association, it was imperative for it to contribute its quota the call for peace during and after the 2008 elections.
He urged members to help the security agencies to bring to book people, who might decide to undermine the credibility of the election. The president later swore-in a 13 member executives of the branch into office for a two-year term.
The executives were Nana Argo Labie Chairman, Mr Kumi Hagan, Secretary, Mr Charles Annan, Public Relations Officer, Mrs Bettey Ekua Essel and Daniel Nkansah Organisers.
Mr Quarcoo advised them to unite, be transparent and work hard towards the progress of the association. He called on them to organise capacity building workshops for the members to update their knowledge on the job. Mr Frank Arthur Kasoa, Urban Council Chairman, advised them to honour their tax obligation to enable the government get enough funds for development.
He appealed to them to organize periodic clean-up exercises for their services to attract more customers and also avoid the outbreak of diseases.
Nana Labie, the branch chairman on behalf of the executive thanked the members for the honour done them and appealed for the support of members to achieve success for the association.
Reverend Kofi Akotuah Obeng, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) parliamentary candidate and Mr David Nana Labie, National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Awutu-Senya Constituency both appealed to the people in the area to contribute towards peaceful, free and fair elections.
Mr Rolland Quainoo, GHABOA Public Relations Officer, who chaired the function, advised members to be law abiding.
