The statement expressed gratitude to the party's flag bearer and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the selection, described the decision as a great honour to the North. "We are equally grateful to the NPP for always taking into consideration the religious and geographical divides of our country in matters of the selection of running mates.

"Nana Addo, a southern Christian with Dr. Bawumia, a northern Muslim, is an excellent combination". The statement noted that the choice of Dr. Bawumia had come at a time when the NPP was making in-roads in opposition strongholds in the Northern Region. "His selection will certainly add a great deal of impetus to our efforts to win the December general election," it said.
