As Ghana’s political landscape heats up in the run-up to the elections, Ing. Kwabena Agyapong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for unity within the party amid growing concerns over internal divisions.

Speaking on Oyerepa FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Agyapong expressed his discomfort with recent comments made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a respected figure within the NPP, who criticised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“It’s troubling to hear such remarks from someone of his stature,” Agyapong began. “As a former cabinet minister, Professor Frimpong-Boateng was part of the decision-making body. Criticising the same government he served in raises questions about accountability and principle,” he wondered.

Agyapong highlighted that Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, had a significant role in shaping the policies he now challenges.

“I find it ironic because I, who held no governmental position, should perhaps be the one speaking up about any shortcomings,” Agyapong remarked.

While addressing the issue of disunity, Agyapong avoided a personal attack, explaining that his critique stemmed from a place of respect and friendship.

“I wouldn’t want to delve too deeply into this out of respect for him, but we must lead with principle. If you had the opportunity to make a difference while in office, that’s where your criticism should have translated into action.”

Agyapong’s appeal for unity comes at a crucial time for the NPP, with elections just days away.
