The Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has described the re-collation of electoral results by the Electoral Commission as illegal.
In a Facebook post on Friday, December 13, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah argued that the only way results can be re-collated after declarations have been made is through the courts, as outlined in the laws stipulated in C.I. 127.
He stated that any action contrary to this procedure is a breach of the law.
According to him, the illegality being perpetrated by the Electoral Commission in the parliamentary election results will be fiercely resisted, warning that the incoming NDC government will not accept such actions by the Electoral Commission.
“EC: You Must Know The Only Way To Re-collate After Declaration Is Through The Courts. The Electoral Commission Ghana must know that per C.I. 127 the only way to re-collate after declaration is through the courts... This point of law renders their re-collation illegal. And the incoming NDC government will not entertain such re-collations. RE-COLLATION of Parliamentary seats that had already been collated without court order will not stand!,” he wrote on Facebook.
Dr. Omane Boamah, therefore, called on Ghanaians to remain vigilant regarding the EC and the New Patriotic Party, particularly in constituencies where the results have yet to be collated by the EC.
“Still keep #EAGLEEYES on the Electoral Commission and the NPP.
NB: Be informed that some of the constituencies had not been collated. Separate that from those that had been collated,” he added.
Dr. Omane Boamah’s concerns come in the wake of some parliamentary seats being overturned by the EC following re-collation.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has, for instance, overturned the parliamentary results in the Fanteakwa North Constituency, declaring the NPP’s Kwame Appiah Kodua as the winner of the race.
The electoral body earlier declared the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu, as the winner at Begoro after the close of polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
The Returning Officer for the area, Zacharia Adams, declared the NDC candidate the winner, securing 11,138 votes, with Kwame Appiah Kodua polling 10,847 votes.
