Some 23 pregnant women out of 500 test HIV positive

Wenchi, Dec 17, GNA - Twenty-three out of 500 pregnant women tested at Wenchi Hospital between January and October tested HIV positive.

Mr. B.C.K. Botwe, Administrator of the hospital, said this at a meeting with members of the Ghana Red Cross Society, nurses and students of Our Lady of Fatima Vocational and Business Institute at Wenchi. He advised Ghanaians to protect themselves against the pandemic, emphasizing that HIV/AIDS is real and people need to be careful and must abstain from casual sex as the best weapon in the fight against it.

Mr. Wahab Yaruba Abdul, District Organiser of Ghana Red Society called on the youth to help intensify the fight against the pandemic. He called on the Government to institute measures to check against monies meant for HIV/AIDS patients being used for other purposes. Mr. Yaruba called on non-governmental organizations and well-to-do people to contribute effectively towards the up-keep of AIDS patients in the Wenchi district.
