Peki (V/R), June 16, GNA - The South Dayi constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have declared their support for Mr Semenu Kafui Bekui as the President's new nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr Bekui replaces Mrs Perpetual Annan who was rejected by the 17-member Assembly by 13 to 4 votes. "We urge all assemblymen in our district to turn up on the appointed day to vote massively to endorse the candidate". This was contained in a statement signed by Madam Boatemaa Boateng, Constituency Chairperson of the party. The statement alleged that following the nomination of Mr Bekui some "opposition elements" have been working to torpedo his endorsement. The Executives however cautioned that they "will not allow or stand idly by for opposition elements hiding behind the cloak of chiefs and self-styled opinion leaders, to usurp the mandate of either the President or the assemblymen". The statement urged "all the members, rank and file, of our great party, the NDC, to remain calm and support the nominee". 16 June 09
