The Vice-Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly referred to as NAPO, has urged the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to refrain from using insults during his campaign, particularly in relation to the President not handing over power after the December elections.

Addressing residents of Effiduase in the Ashanti Region on September 20, 2024, he said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will hand over power after the elections. He expressed surprise at Mahama's tendency to resort to intemperate language in his campaign.

"Whether Nana Addo likes it or not, he will hand over power in 2025. Recently, he described the president in very derogatory terms. A man who was once president of this country. What was his legacy? He was the only sitting vice president who was subjected to an inquiry.   "During his tenure as president, the Flagstaff House was the second most corrupt institution. He should avoid the use of inappropriate language during campaigns. On the day of voting, we will use our thumbs to retire him. Let us sound this caution to the NDC", he explained.

Speaking at a mini-rally in Dobro after a visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited on May 7, 2024, Akufo-Addo stated that he would be pleased to see his vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, elected as the next president of Ghana after the December polls.

He urged Ghanaians to vote for the person he has worked with for the past seven and a half years, expressing his confidence in Bawumia’s ability to continue the work he has begun.

“Also, when the time is up for the voting, our job is simple. The person I defeated and my work since I took over seems not to please him; I cannot hand over power to such a person. He will destroy whatever we have done when he comes,” Akufo-Addo warned.

He added, “…I am pleading with you to vote for the person I have worked with for the past seven and half years. I have faith in him, and I know that he will come and continue the work I have begun as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
