The Minority in Parliament has condemned the raid of the home of Asutifi South Member of Parliament, Collins Dauda, by police.
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, who addressed a press conference on Tuesday, 25 September 2018 said the police must respect the laws of the country.
“We demand civility and courtesy in this matter. We expect that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Minister for the Interior must know that which is legally and constitutionally appropriate. We have never ever said anywhere that Members of Parliament are above the law or above criminal investigations but to besiege the home of an MP with that thuggery of men in uniform is intimidating and unacceptable for us,” he stated.
In his view, they are not perturbed by “harassment and intimidation” but “it must stop”.
Mr Iddrisu added that they “are capable of responding to those threats of intimidation and harassment” and urged President Nana Akufo-Addo and the ministers in charge of security to beware of the fact that “Ghana is not a Banana Republic”.
There was a dawn raid by eight armed officer raid on Tuesday, 25 September, of the residence of Mr Dauda, over alleged violence associated with the limited voter registration exercise.
