The leader and founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, is still in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest several days ago.

The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Justice Srem Sai, has stated that Kofi Akpaloo is currently being investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for a number of crimes, including causing financial loss to the state and fraud.

“Suspect Percival Kofi Akpaloo is under investigation on allegations of various financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering,” the Deputy AG wrote.

Although, the Deputy AG did not state the activities the former presidential candidate of the LPG engaged in that led to the allegations against him, a video has emerged of him (Akpaloo) listing the contracts he got under the then- Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

Akpaloo, who was speaking in an interview with popular broadcaster Captain Smart, before the 2024 election, said that he had a procurement contract with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) through his company, Kelvin Platinum, where he supplied transformers and other ECG equipment worth $1.9 million.

He said that the contract with ECG was duly executed and that he received his payment.

The founder of LPG also disclosed that he was given a lot of road contracts under the previous government, including that of the Anyomusu Road in the Ahafo Region, which he said was 70% complete but had not been paid for.

However, Captain Smart refuted Akpaloo’s assertion that the road was 70% complete, adding that he had been paid for no work done.

Akpaloo also said he was given a contract for a road in Berekum, which he said “has stalled because he had not been paid.”
