National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, says the party will resist what he describes as attempts by the Mahama administration to suppress free speech.
His comments follow the arrest of Agona West Organiser David Essandoh, who was reportedly picked up by unidentified men after a social media post on power outages, mynewsgh.com
reported on May 12, 2026.
Speaking on Joy News, Nana B said the arrest reflects a worrying pattern.
“We are not going to take such suppression of free speech,” he stated.
He cited past cases of political commentary leading to arrests, including the Baba Amando incident.
“It’s been the trend. Look at the Baba Amando case. I can cite so many instances,” he added.
Nana B said the NPP has started making official reports and will pursue every lead regarding Essandoh’s disappearance.
“The invitation first came from the CID headquarters, so that is where we are starting from,” he explained.
While admitting the party does not know exactly who picked up Essandoh, he said the earlier police invitation cannot be ignored.
“At least we have a lead. The lead is that there was an invitation,” he stated.
Nana B concluded by urging authorities to clarify the situation quickly and ensure due process is followed.
