Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter’s register ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News on September 19, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe likened the EC's refusal to a scenario where someone is trying to hide evidence.

“Why should they be afraid if they do not have a problem with forensic examination? Why should they be afraid if they do not have anything to hide?

“Where we are now, it is not a partisan affair. We are getting into a very serious problem. It's not about NPP or NDC or any other party hanging around. We must look at this nation now. This nation is already a failed nation,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe stressed that the issue at hand is not about party politics but about the broader concerns facing Ghana’s democracy.

He urged citizens to view the situation from a national perspective rather than a partisan one.

“Things are getting worse and I am getting worried. I know there are elders my age and they have gone silent for reasons I don’t know. I hope with the sort of alarm bells from the trade union organisations and other sectors, that Ghanaian will sit up now,” he said.

His remarks followed allegations from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which claimed that the EC had refused a forensic audit request after the party raised concerns about irregularities, including the illegal transfer of votes.

The NDC has accused the EC of facilitating unlawful transfers of votes and demanded a forensic audit to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
