Yendi (N/R), March 17, GNA - Ms Agnes Gandaa, the Partnership Coordinator of the Tamale Ecclesiastical Pastoral Province Conference (TEPPCON), has appealed to people especially women who enter politics with the aim of fuelling conflicts and vengeance to be mindful that politics was not the end of life.
She said such people must rather reflect on the basis upon which they were tied to a particular political party or parties and how they could use such opportunities to calm down or resolve conflicts so as to influence policies for development in the northern parts of the country. Ms Gandaa was addressing the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop on peace and conflict management for women in Yendi on Tuesday. The workshop was organized by TEPPCON and sponsored by the Konrad Adenuaer Stiftung under the theme; "Conflict prevention, resolution and transformation; the role of the Northern woman". Ms Gandaa said the long delays in resolving conflicts bring fear among many women and children.
"Long delays in conflict resolution are often caused by conflict contractors at the local and national levels and some greedy individuals". Mr. Isaac Owusu-Mensah, the Senior Programme Manager of Konrad Adenuaer Stiftung, said the objective of his organization was to promote good governance through peace and sustainable development especially the less privileged in society.
He said people who fuelled conflicts with their parochial interest must desist and fight for their common good.
Alhaji Dr. Al Hussein Zakaria, the Executive Director for Community Development and Youth Advisory Center (CODEYAC), said conflicts had historically developed very minimal situations to bigger ones and that was how most of the conflicts in northern Ghana developed. 18 March 10
