The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the Ashanti Region can no longer be viewed as an exclusive stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following notable gains in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday at Nsuta Kwamang Beposo during the party’s three-day Ashanti “Thank You Tour,” NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah told chiefs, party supporters, and residents that the election results indicate a significant political shift in the region.

He explained that the NDC historically faced challenges in Ashanti, with campaign efforts limited to select constituencies. Ahead of the 2024 polls, the party deliberately expanded its presence to all districts, a move that led to a rise in voter support.

The NDC pushed its vote share in the region past 30 per cent, nearing 35 per cent, surpassing the traditional benchmark of around 28 per cent, which had previously been considered sufficient for national victory.

The party also made parliamentary gains, securing eight seats in Ashanti — its strongest performance in the region to date, compared with three to four seats in past elections.

Asiedu Nketia said the results reflect growing acceptance of the NDC among Ashanti voters and underscored the region’s influence in determining national outcomes.

He assured that the party will maintain active engagement with the region, describing it as a long-term commitment.

He further acknowledged the support of traditional leaders and religious groups, emphasising that their guidance, prayers, and encouragement contributed to the party’s success.
