John Dramani Mahama is Ghana's President
President John Dramani Mahama has mimicked how some Ghanaians quickly adopt foreign accents after travelling abroad.
Addressing some Ghanaian residents in the US on March 26, 2026, he stressed the need for Ghanaians in the diaspora to maintain their cultural identity.
"And so, wherever you go, be proud to be an African, be proud to be a Ghanaian, you know. One of the things, one of the things everybody says about Kofi Annan, he was one of the longest Ghanaians who stayed in the diaspora", he remarked.
What President Mahama said to a citizen urging him to contest for a third term
In a light-hearted moment, President Mahama, joked about how some Ghanaians return home sounding different after a short stay abroad.
He didn't change his accent, today, somebody comes to America for four weeks… Can you take me to Koko mlemle, where is Koko mlemle?… Adabraka not Ada-bra-ka
Mahama praised the diaspora community for keeping Ghanaian traditions alive and urged them to continue being proud ambassadors of their culture wherever they find themselves.
