An Accra High Court has granted bail to the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando.

The court set bail at GH¢30,000 with two sureties and ordered him to report to the police every two weeks while investigations continue, according to a report by citinewsroom.com on April 17, 2026.

His earlier remand by an Accra Circuit Court on April 14, 2026, had attracted public attention as authorities intensified investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.

Although formal charges have not yet been filed, sources indicate that the arrest may be linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court; an issue that has raised concern within legal and governance circles.

Baba Amando, who was arrested on April 13, 2026, is also alleged to have shared derogatory images of President John Dramani Mahama and members of the government on social media.

In a statement issued on April 13, the NPP described the arrest as “unwarranted,” arguing that it raises concerns about due process and civil liberties in the country.
