National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, has strongly condemned the ongoing xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa, describing the violence as a betrayal of Africa’s unity and shared identity.

In a statement issued from Accra, Alhassan said no African should be attacked, humiliated, or killed simply for seeking survival and opportunities in another African country.

“Africa must never become a continent where Africans live in fear of fellow Africans,” he stated.

His comments come amid renewed concerns over attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa, where migrants from other African countries have often faced hostility, violence, and intimidation.

Alhassan called on the African Union, the United Nations, regional organisations, human rights groups, and religious leaders to speak out forcefully against xenophobia on the continent.

“The disturbing acts of xenophobia and violence against foreign nationals in South Africa must be condemned openly, firmly, and without hesitation,” he stressed.

According to him, silence from leaders and institutions only worsens the crisis and deepens divisions among Africans.

He warned that the continent risks undermining its long-standing ideals of Pan-Africanism if Africans continue to turn against one another.

“We cannot preach Pan-Africanism in speeches and abandon it in practice. The blood of any African spilt by another African is a stain on the conscience of the entire continent,” he added.

The NDC national executive also expressed solidarity with Africans living under fear and intimidation in South Africa, assuring them that many people across the continent stand with them in peace and humanity.

He ended his statement with a call for unity and coexistence across Africa.

“Enough of the hatred. Enough of the violence. Africa belongs to all Africans,” he said.
