The debate emerged during discussions on Adom TV's Badwam programme
Collins Adomako Mensah, the Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region, left David Theophilus Dominic Vondee, the Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa in the Central Region, visibly shocked after claiming that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has never built, completed and operationalised a single hospital from scratch in the Ashanti Region while in government.
The debate emerged during discussions on the persistent "no-bed syndrome" in some hospitals following the recent suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo.
The suspension subsequently triggered a strike action by some staff of the facility.
Speaking on Adom TV's Badwam programme on June 9, 2026, Adomako Mensah argued that the government should operationalise some of the Agenda 111 hospitals initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to help ease pressure on major healthcare facilities.
During the discussion, the NDC MP accused the NPP of spending eight years in government without significantly improving healthcare infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, despite the region being considered the party's political stronghold.
“If you have stayed in government for eight years and you couldn't even build a single hospital, how can you come here and make noise about Agenda 111? Even with Agenda 111, which one was built and completed? Mention one. Just mention one hospital that the NPP built and completed within its eight years in government,” he challenged.
However, Adomako Mensah rejected the assertion and countered that the NDC could not point to a single hospital project in the Ashanti Region that it started, completed and operationalised while in government.
“I can tell you on authority that the NDC has no hospital project that it started and completed in the Ashanti Region. None. I challenge you to mention one hospital in the region that was started and completed by the NDC,” he said.
He further argued that several hospitals often credited to the NDC were either completed or operationalised under the NPP administration.

“Bekwai was completed under Akufo-Addo. Fomena was started under Mahama and completed by the NPP. Kumawu was completed by the NPP. The same applies to Konongo and Tepa. Give me one hospital that the NDC started and completed in the Ashanti Region,” he added.
The NDC MP appeared stunned by the claim and responded with an exclamation, “Herh!”
Adomako Mensah maintained his position, insisting that almost all hospital projects initiated by the NDC in the region were either completed or operationalised by the NPP government.
Vondee later defended his position, arguing that the NDC had played a major role in the construction of several hospitals, including the Sewua, Fomena, Kumawu, Tepa and Konongo hospitals, among others.
However, Adomako Mensah dismissed the claim as inaccurate, insisting that the facilities mentioned were either completed or operationalised under the NPP administration rather than the NDC.
