Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has revealed that he recently spent GH¢750,000 to fix street lights at Ohwim Bridge in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

According to him, despite the huge investment, in less than three months after the lights were installed, unscrupulous individuals had removed the bulbs and cables, plunging the area back into darkness.

Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM, excerpts of which have been shared on social media on June 16, 2026, he stressed that Ghana’s development will remain difficult if citizens do not change their attitudes.

“The lights we fixed were not of poor quality. Some bad people have deliberately destroyed them and removed the cables.

“During the funeral of Sammy Gyamfi’s in-law, I went around and realized the place was dark. I was angry because I had recently spent GH¢750,000 to fix them and in less than three months, people had removed all the bulbs,” he lamented.

Boadi further explained that the police alone cannot patrol the entire city.

“People ask why we don’t patrol but how many police officers do we have in town to do this? We are not in a perfect situation, so we must limit this sabotaging behavior,” he added.
