Chairman of the Communications Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has disclosed details of a conversation between the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong.

According to him, Dr Bawumia met with all the presidential aspirants who contested him in the NPP flagbearership race to reconcile and seek their support as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Asaase Radio, excerpts of which have circulated on social media, Nana Akomea said Kennedy Agyapong told Dr Bawumia during their meeting that he needed some quiet time before actively joining the campaign.

“I was in the meeting when Dr Bawumia met Kennedy Agyapong. It was a very cordial meeting. He told Dr Bawumia that he wanted some quiet time and that, at the appropriate time, he would come on board.

“Many times, some of these things are said as outbursts of anger, but when the anger cools down, people then begin to act in a certain frame of mind,” he stated.

His comments follow Kennedy Agyapong’s recent outburst against the NPP over the completion of the Afari Military Hospital.

Kennedy Agyapong had accused the NPP of lacking the moral authority to pressure the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to complete and operationalise the facility, arguing that the party failed to complete the project during its eight years in office.
