Afenyo-Markin and Nana Oye embraced each other after Ghana's draw against England
Politics often divides Ghanaians and their leaders, but football remains one of the few moments capable of bringing people together across political lines.
That spirit of unity was evident when Ghana’s Black Stars faced England’s Three Lions on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in their second Group game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a video shared by The1957News, members of both the Minority and Majority caucuses were seen celebrating together as they cheered on the national team during the goalless clash.

They were also seen congratulating each other with hugs and commending themselves after the referee ended the game.
Among those seen enjoying the moment were the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Second Deputy Speaker, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, together with several other parliamentarians and dignitaries who joined in celebrating Ghana's performance.
Following the draw, Ghana moved to second place in Group L behind England, with both teams tied on four points. However, England remains top of the group on goal difference.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to their final group match against Croatia on June 27, 2026.
