Political journalist and host of Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has downplayed concerns over recent public criticisms by former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, arguing that political outbursts and internal disagreements are not uncommon within political parties and should be managed rather than sensationalised.

Speaking on his current affairs programme, Adom-Otchere described Kennedy Agyapong's recent threat to expose certain issues within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by June next year as unfortunate but not unprecedented in the party's political history.

According to him, while the comments may have generated anxiety among sections of the party, the NPP's immediate focus should remain on its ongoing reorganization efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The political analyst noted that the party has so far successfully conducted elections in more than 38,000 polling stations nationwide and is steadily progressing toward constituency, regional, and national executive elections.

He therefore cautioned party faithful against allowing internal tensions to derail what he described as a largely successful rebuilding process.

Adom-Otchere acknowledged that Kennedy Agyapong's public posture may be uncomfortable for many party supporters, particularly at a time when unity remains a critical objective.

However, he maintained that such disagreements are not foreign to democratic political organizations and can be resolved through dialogue and internal engagement.

In assessing recent interventions by leading NPP figures, Adom-Otchere singled out Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, for praise following his statement urging party members to rally behind the NPP's 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 elections.

He observed that Dr Acheampong's statement reinforced the reality that political attacks and internal criticisms are not new phenomena within the NPP, noting that the MP himself admitted to being a victim of intense political attacks in the past.

Nevertheless, Bryan Acheampong strongly criticized what he described as the recurring tendency of Kennedy Agyapong to air grievances through the media, arguing that such public pronouncements risk undermining the party's credibility and damaging its public image.

Adom-Otchere described Bryan Acheampong's intervention as measured, statesmanlike, and constructive, commending him for prioritizing party cohesion over factional interests.

The broadcaster also reserved praise for Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, whom he credited for bringing clarity and objectivity to the ongoing debate about internal party discipline.

During the programme, Adom-Otchere played excerpts of a video in which Afenyo-Markin admonished party members against publicly attacking the NPP and its presidential candidate, warning that such conduct weakens the party's electoral prospects and provides ammunition for political opponents.

According to Adom-Otchere, the Minority Leader's comments reflected a growing concern among senior party figures that persistent public criticisms from within could undermine efforts to reposition the NPP after its 2024 electoral defeat.

He concluded that while dissent and criticism are inevitable features of democratic politics, party leaders must find effective mechanisms for managing internal disputes without compromising the organization's collective image and strategic objectives.
