Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has told Kennedy Agyapong that he is at liberty to leave the party if he feels aggrieved.

According to him, if Kennedy Agyapong and his followers believe they have the support base to leave the NPP, they should go ahead.

He said he is fed up with what he described as the “tantrums” of the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and his supporters.

“If you are in the NPP and you think you are fed up with the people around the party and want to leave, leave. Alan Kyerematen left, and we are all aware of his performance during the 2024 elections. Even Cheddar beat him. If you believe you have the base to support you, leave and see if you will be supported the same way,” he said.

“Enough is enough. If they say they are going away, they should go because enough is enough. Every person wakes up and insults Bawumia, insults Samira, just because they know he will not respond. We are fed up with them. They should leave the party and we will be fine. If they leave, we will get others to support the party,” he added.

On insults directed at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, he noted that such comments are harmful and risk deepening divisions within the party.

“One of the people who speak for the base said the Mamprusi people are destroying the party, which is a very unfortunate comment. These kinds of statements explain why people from the Northern part of Ghana do not want to join the party. Bawumia and his wife are the most vilified people in our politics just because of where they come from, and that should not be the case,” he said.
