Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has cautioned party executives against hypocrisy, internal rivalry and attempts to undermine each other.

Speaking in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on August 21, 2026, he described such behaviour within society and in politics as unhealthy, noting that it should not be encouraged.

“In the last one and a half years, there are positions, and people will say that because I don't like him, don't give it to him... We glorify this nonsense among us. We destroy people; meanwhile, when it is done to us, we do not like it. You only get to complain when it is about you. But when you are part of the people doing it, you don't feel the pain.

"...Yet, we go to church. In the shrines, there are principles. In the Quran: there are principles that you don't do to others, what you don't want done to you," he stated.

Gbande also criticised what he described as jealousy over the success of others, saying some people become uncomfortable when their colleagues or associates begin to prosper.

“When an NDC person is getting rich, his enemy is from within, yet we do not see that that is a problem, because power has come," he said.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary further noted that power and influence should not lead people to seek the downfall of others.

“People have become big. They rather think that others should go down,” he said.

Gbande said principles of fairness and consideration for others should guide people's conduct, regardless of their religious or cultural background.

He stressed that circumstances can change and those who appear powerful today may not remain in that position tomorrow.

“If you destroy what belongs to somebody today, you may think that you are enjoying it. We know the beginning, we do not know the finish... Whatever you sow, you must reap it," he added.

Gbande maintained that actions have consequences and warned against conspiracies aimed at ruining other people's lives, careers or reputations.
