Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku is the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund
The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, MahamaCares, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has shared a personal account of the difficult period she experienced after losing the 2012 parliamentary election.
Speaking at her 49th birthday thanksgiving service, she recalled that after losing the election, there came a time when she could not even afford prepaid credit for her house because she had no money.
Obuobia Darko-Opoku, who was the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Weija-Gbawe constituency, noted that ordinarily, constituents would start arriving at her residence as early as 4:30 a.m. to seek her assistance.
However, she said that when she lost the election and woke up the following morning, she was surprised to find that there was nobody at her gate, describing the experience as a reflection of the realities of life.
“When we lost the 2012 election, at a point in time, we couldn’t buy prepaid credit for the house because there was no money. And on the day we lost that election, I woke up in the morning, drew my curtains, and realised that there was nobody at the gate. Ordinarily, by 4:30 a.m., my gate is full.

“They come with all sorts of stories, and I had to help. When I didn’t have, I had to borrow to help. But when I lost the election and I woke up that morning, there was nobody there. That is life,” she noted.
In 2012, the parliamentary candidate of the NDC for the Weija-Gbawe constituency, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, was defeated by Tina Naa Ayele Mensah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the parliamentary elections.
