NDC never included state of emergency in manifesto to fight galamsey - Member

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team has dismissed claims that the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, promised to declare a state of emergency to tackle illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on August 21, 2026, the NDC representative clarified that while some individuals may have made such assertions, Mahama himself never made such a promise.

His response came after host Kwami Sefa Kayi questioned him about the NDC’s manifesto pledge to deploy artificial intelligence and drones in the fight against galamsey, alongside suggestions that a state of emergency would be declared.

The communications team member insisted that Mahama’s position had been misrepresented, stressing that the party’s official manifesto does not include any plan to declare a state of emergency as part of its anti-galamsey strategy.

“The NDC and President Mahama never said they would declare a state of emergency. It was some individuals who made such statements. We never included that in our manifesto,” he said.

He further clarified that the party’s plan to deploy drones in the fight against illegal mining remains intact.

“As for the drone, it is in the pipeline; very soon you will see it. Don’t worry,” he assured.
