Nana Akomea files to contest NPP first vice chairman position

Former Information Minister and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Nana Akomea, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.

Nana Akomea brings considerable political and communications experience to the race. He served as the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South from 1997 to 2013 and was Minister of Information under President John Agyekum Kufuor.

He also served as the NPP’s Director of Communications and held the same role in the party’s 2016 presidential campaign, when the NPP successfully returned to power.

His decision to contest the First Vice Chairman position has been described by political observers as strategic, with the role carrying significant influence within the party and potentially positioning its occupant for future leadership.

The NPP is currently preparing for its 2026 national executive elections, with 13 aspirants reported to be contesting the three vice-chairmanship positions.

The party has scheduled vetting of aspirants for September 1, with the elections expected to take place in October.

Nana Akomea’s entry is therefore expected to add further weight and experience to what is shaping up to be a competitive contest for the NPP’s vice-chairmanship positions.
