The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has urged the Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on resolving internal challenges within his party instead of using the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as a tool for political attacks.
The MP said he was surprised that claims surrounding an alleged GH¢1.7 billion loss by GoldBod continued to be circulated after the figure had been fact-checked and described as a misrepresentation of the organisation’s financial figures.

According to the Hohoe MP, it was particularly disappointing that the NPP Regional Chairman in the Volta Region was relying on the claim to score political points and divert attention from what he described as a political mess created within the party following the Chairman’s election.
“You cannot use misinformation and gross ignorance as a political strategy,” the MP said in a statement on September 3, 2026.
He explained that GoldBod’s operations involve working capital, foreign exchange and gold reserves, arguing that such financial figures should not automatically be interpreted as losses.
“If there is evidence that GH¢1.7 billion has actually been lost, let them show us the audit report, the transaction and where the money went. Otherwise, stop presenting accounting figures as losses just to create political propaganda,” he stated.
The MP further argued that GoldBod’s activities have direct implications for the Volta Region because of the region’s extensive commercial activities with neighbouring Togo.
He noted that thousands of traders and businesses in the region depend on currency stability for their livelihoods, making developments in the foreign-exchange market particularly important to the people of the Volta Region.
The Hohoe MP also pointed to GoldBod’s social interventions, arguing that the organisation’s activities should not be assessed solely through political rhetoric.
He cited GoldBod’s recent support for Operation Smile Ghana at the Ho Teaching Hospital, which provided free reconstructive surgeries for 51 patients with cleft lip and palate, including beneficiaries from South Tongu.
According to the MP, the intervention demonstrates that institutions such as GoldBod can contribute directly to improving the lives of residents in the region.
Turning his attention to development in Hohoe and across the Volta Region, the MP said the broader economic environment was creating opportunities for government to manage public finances more effectively, reduce excessive dependence on borrowing and preserve resources for development.
He listed several projects and interventions as evidence of what he described as tangible development in the area.
These include the completion of the Fodome-Hohoe Road, asphalt works on the Eastern Corridor Road, the Santrokofi-Hohoe Road and the Alavanyo-Nkonya Road.
He also mentioned the completion of the permanent campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at Fodome, the construction of a 350-seater auditorium and a 430-bed-capacity hostel at UHAS, as well as the new STEM Senior High School in Hohoe.
Other projects cited included the Gbi-Wegbe Bridge project, the Segbedenu project, the reconstruction of Alavanyo Senior High School and the construction of a 24-hour economy market, alongside other ongoing interventions.
“These are not theories; they are projects our people can see,” the MP said.
He therefore called on political actors in the region to engage in constructive debate based on verifiable facts rather than what he described as misinformation and political propaganda.
“Instead of playing politics with everything, let us acknowledge what is benefiting our people and debate the facts honestly. Volta deserves better,” he said.
