Rashid Tanko-Computer has defended the government’s decision to allow investigators to work on the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal before drawing conclusions, saying those implicated must not be cleared before the process is completed.

The Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) was involved in the probe and that the President had asked the National Sports Authority boss to step aside to allow an impartial investigation.

“The BNI is involved. They are investigating the matter. That is why His Excellency the President asked the NSA boss to step aside so that they can have an impartial investigation into this matter,” he said on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV.

Tanko-Computer said the government should not rush to dismiss the allegations or exonerate anyone before investigators had established the facts.

“We are not going to behave like them and, before investigations, whitewash the whole thing and throw love letters to people and get them off the hook. This government will not do that,” he said.

He praised President John Mahama for allowing the investigative bodies to do their work, arguing that the decision to have the NSA boss step aside demonstrated a commitment to an independent process.

Tanko-Computer urged the public to allow the investigation to continue, saying those who made allegations should be prepared to substantiate them.

He added that if the alleged wrongdoing is established, those responsible should face the consequences.
