NDC Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Amos Blessing Armose, has defended the party’s decision to urge the headteacher of Obuasi Senior High Technical School to step aside amid allegations of abuse involving students.

Armose said the party had not dismissed or suspended the headteacher but had asked him to step aside while the matter went through the appropriate processes.

“The party is not sacking him or dismissing him. If the party had wanted to suspend him, the party would have been unequivocal with the tone of the letter,” he said during an interview on Channel One TV.

He explained that the decision was intended to allow the allegations to be investigated without the party passing judgment on the accused before the process was completed.

According to Armose, the headteacher had complied with the request and submitted a letter indicating that he had stepped aside. He also said the headteacher had resigned as constituency secretary.

“I have seen a letter where he has stepped down, and he has even resigned as constituency secretary,” Armose said.

He argued that the party could not forcibly dismiss the headteacher without regard to the applicable laws and procedures.

“The party couldn’t have forcibly sacked him because, bearing in mind, there are laws,” he said.

Armose added that the NDC had urged the relevant authorities to take the necessary steps to ensure the matter was dealt with through the appropriate process.

“What the party has equally done is to urge the GES to take steps to put him through the process so that the victims, at the end of the day, will also witness justice,” he said.

He maintained that the party’s decision to ask the headteacher to step aside was consistent with its position that the rights of both the accused and the alleged victims must be respected.
