Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah Boadu, has written an emotional letter to the Agonamanhene, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, appealing for a chance to resolve a misunderstanding that led to her being banned from organising social events within his traditional jurisdiction.

In the letter dated October 25, 2026, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP expressed deep respect for the traditional ruler, describing him as not only a revered chief but also a father to her.

The letter follows a directive from the Agonamanhene banning the MP from organising any social event within his traditional jurisdiction, which he considered disrespectful.

The controversy arose after the MP invited the traditional ruler to the grand finale of an inter-senior high school football tournament but addressed him as “The Chief, Agona Traditional Council” instead of using his traditional title.

In her letter, Mavis Nikansah Boadu acknowledged the error and accepted responsibility for the oversight.

“I wish to assure you that it was neither deliberate nor intended in any way to diminish your exalted position as Agonamanhene,” she stated.

She further emphasised her commitment to upholding the authority and dignity of the Agona Traditional Stool, noting that she was raised in a family with a strong chieftaincy heritage.

“Nana, I come from a lineage of chiefs. My late grandfather was a chief, and my father occupies a stool today. I was raised to honour our customs, our traditions and the chieftaincy institution, and these values have shaped who I am,” she wrote.

The MP also recounted some of the circumstances that had prevented her from attending key traditional events following the Agonamanhene’s enstoolment.

She explained that parliamentary duties had prevented her from attending the enstoolment ceremony, although she arranged for a delegation comprising her constituency executives, family members, the former District Chief Executive and the Presiding Member to represent her.

She added that she had personally called to explain her absence.

Regarding the Agonamanhene’s maiden Akwasidae celebration, the MP said she was unable to attend because she was unwell following an attack during the NPP Constituency Executives Election.

She further explained that parliamentary business had kept her away from subsequent Akwasidae celebrations.

The MP also disclosed that she had made two separate attempts to call on the traditional ruler to pay her respects but was unable to meet him on both occasions.

“I humbly ask, Nana, that these absences are not considered as a lack of regard for you or for the Stool. They were circumstances beyond my control and not a reflection of disrespect,” she stated.
