Fifi Fiavi Kwetey is the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says he is not concerned about whether his public comments please government officials or the presidency, insisting that not holding a government appointment gives him the freedom to speak his mind.
He said not holding a government position allows him to focus on his responsibilities as General Secretary and address issues based on what he believes is best for the party without worrying about the reactions of those in government.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on November 3, 2026, Fifi Kwetey said he does not consider whether his comments will upset officials at the presidency or within government.
“Is somebody happy in government? Is somebody happy at the presidency? It’s not my consideration. I do what I believe to be right for the party, and it’s fine,” he stated.
He described his situation as liberating, explaining that it gives him the independence to concentrate fully on the NDC and speak freely on matters affecting the party.
Fifi Kwetey noted that although he would have accepted a government appointment, he would have preferred one that did not require his full-time commitment.

“Why not? I wouldn’t have minded because as long as it’s not a full-time position,” he indicated.
He explained that he had not actively pursued a government position because his priority was helping the NDC return to power and fulfilling his responsibilities as General Secretary.
Fifi Kwetey also pointed out that combining the position with a government board chairmanship could create a conflict of authority, particularly because, as General Secretary, he serves as the party's chief executive and manages its relationship with government.
According to him, it would be difficult to serve under a minister in a board chairmanship role when that same minister is expected to report to him on party matters.
Fifi Kwetey further urged party members to work towards strengthening the NDC out of genuine commitment rather than the expectation of securing government appointments.
“That we need to encourage a lot more people in the party to do what they do fundamentally because they want the party to be strong,” he said.
