Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Alberta Afia Akoto, has signalled her political ambitions in Okaikwei North, declaring that she is ready to serve a constituency she says has been her home for more than four decades.

In a Facebook post, Afia Akoto said her decision to enter the political race was driven by her longstanding connection with the area and her desire to give residents dedicated representation.

" For more than 40 years, Okaikwei North has been my home. I have lived among you, shared in the joys and challenges of our community, and built lasting connections with the people who make this constituency special," she wrote.

She said her familiarity with the constituency and its residents had strengthened her resolve to serve, adding that she was prepared to listen to their concerns and work towards improving their lives.

"I am in the race because I believe our community deserves dedicated service, a listening ear and a strong voice. I am ready to work with you, listen to your concerns and help build a brighter future for Okaikwei North," she stated.

Positioning herself as a familiar face rather than an outsider, she ended her message with a direct appeal to residents.

"Dear Okaikwei North, your girl is here—one of your own, ready to serve," she added.

Afia Akoto previously served as Deputy CEO of MASLOC and as Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Her latest political message comes against the backdrop of her unsuccessful attempt to become the NPP's parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North in the party's 2023 parliamentary primaries.

She placed second in the contest with 228 votes, losing to Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, who secured 341 votes. Former MP Fuseini Issah came third with 114 votes.

Although her Facebook post suggests a renewed political push in the constituency, Afia Akoto has not explicitly stated whether she intends to contest the NPP's next parliamentary primary or is announcing a broader political ambition.

Her declaration, however, places her name back in the conversation surrounding political representation in Okaikwei North, particularly given her previous showing in the party's parliamentary primary.
