The National Chairman of Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said his party is well prepared to govern the country better than the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, the failure of the Akufo-Addo led administration to fulfill its promises given Ghanaians in the run up to the 2016 general elections makes the NDC a better alternative for Ghanaians ahead of the 2020 polls, especially as the achievements of the immediate past NDC government are unmatched.

“The NDC is a better alternative to the NPP,” the former minister said while touting the pace the party has set in leading the country.

Mr Ampofo, who was addressing regional women’s organisers and their deputies from across the 16 regions of Ghana in Tamale, noted that majority of Ghanaians were fed up with the leadership of the NPP and stressed that if the women’s wing of the NDC worked hard, the party would emerge victorious in the next elections.

The workshop for the women leaders in the Northern Regional capital which began on Friday, 7th to 10th June, 2019 is on the theme, “Reenergising the women’s wing for victory 2020.”

Mr Ampofo, one of the numerous speakers at the workshop, described the women in the party as “catalysts for effective organisation” and urged them to unite and support each other to build a strong base for NDC’s victory in 2020 and continue the works of the former president John Mahama.

He said as the party’s National Organiser, he was a witness to how women in the NDC persistently mobilised for then flag bearer of the umbrella family, the late Professor J.E.A Mills “deep in the night” and ensured the party won the elections.

“Let’s work as a team…if we don’t build a strong foundation for unity all we’re learning here will be in vain,” the NDC chairman admonished.

He went on to urge them to establish a good relationship with all NDC members and support all activities of the party, bearing in mind the mandate given them by the grassroots.

Advising the women to be selfless and hardworking, Mr Ampofo said, “Let’s remember where we are coming from. Some people gave us the mandate and relate well with those who put us here.”

To him, members of the party should be extremely proud of the infrastructural development and the judicious use of the country’s resources for both capital and non capital intensive projects for Ghanaians under the erstwhile Mills/Mahama adminstration and work to maximise the fortunes of the NDC.

The workshop was under the auspices of the NDC National Women’s Organiser, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw and her two deputies — Maame Efua Sakyi Aidoo and Abigail Elorm A. Mensah with support from the party’s youth wing.

Present at the programme were deputy NDC National Communication Officer, Godwin Arko Gunn, the two Deputy National Youth Organisers —Eric Edem Agbana and Ruth Seddoh.

The others were Pusiga MP, Hajia Laadi Ayamba; National NDC Vice Chairman, Sofo Azorka; NDC Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila among other leading members of the party.
