Anthony Kweku Boahen, a Deputy National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to resist any attempt against the Electoral Commission (EC) decision to compile new voters’ register.

He insisted that any attempt by the EC, headed by Jean Mensa, to compile a new voter’s register on the back of Ghana Card would be resisted.

“We will forcibly resist EC’s attempt to compile a new voter’s register, it will never happen I swear to God. EC, listen to the voices of reason and drop that infamous decision of compiling a new electoral roll. The current register is by all standards credible as you yourself has admitted,” Anthony Kweku Boahen told Reynold Agyemang on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

“The NDC, together with several political parties and dozens of CSOs, have all voiced legitimate concerns about the validity of the EC’s decision to compile a new voter’s register at a time when they have not proven that the current one has any problems.’’

Kweku Boahen added that the announcement by the EC to go ahead with the new voters’ register is a demonstration of arrogance and a show of disrespect to the Eminent Advisory Committee and to IPAC.

He said the Electoral Commission (EC) led by the Chairperson, Jean Mensa is being remote-controlled to compile new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls.

The NDC insists that the hell-bent posture of the Electoral Commission to compile a new register demonstrates its willingness to go all out to please the leader of the governing New Patriotic Party, who has always campaigned for a new electoral register.
