General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has called for the immediate suspension of Offinso South constituency party members who invoked curses on their executives last Friday.
According to him, the actions taken by the members of the party were uncalled for, adding that the NPP does not condone such behaviour.
He indicated that their suspension was in line with Article 3 and 4 of the NPP's constitution.
Mr Boadu explained that some parliamentary candidates willingly pulled out from the primaries after broader consultation at the vetting stage, rubbishing claims that the NPP intentionally disqualified people for incumbent MPs to go unopposed.
Background
On Thursday, June 4, 2020, some NPP supporters and polling station executives in the Offinso South Constituency of the Ashanti region invoked curses on any individual or group that attempts to disqualify any of the four aspirants contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Abdallah Bandah.
The bare-chested men clad in red said, “We are using Antoa Nyama, Botwerewa, River Offin and River Abankro to invoke a curse on any member of the vetting committee who attempts to disqualify any of the four men contesting the incumbent MP. His children and wife must be annihilated. Any vetting committee member who shows bias towards one candidate must also be dealt with".
