Military High Command pays courtesy call

Accra, May 30, GNA - Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor on Monday urged the new Military High Command to maintain the excellent and lofty standards set by their predecessors and improve on it. He asked them to provide the necessary support to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and the people of Ghana, and noted that there has been significant improvement in the equipment standing and infrastructure over the last four years.

A statement signed by Colonel E.W.K. Nibo, Director, Pubic Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces said the Minister was speaking at a short ceremony at which Major General J.B. Danquah, Chief of the Defence Staff and his Service Chiefs paid a courtesy call on him in his office after they assumed Command last Friday.

The Service Chiefs were Maj Gen S.A. Odotei, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Rear Admiral A.R.S Nuno, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), and Air Vice Marshal J.O. Boateng, Chief of Air Staff (CAS). Dr. Addo-Kufuor said he was hopeful that under their able leadership, the positive trends and achievements would continue and the nation could rely on the Armed Forces to "keep the peace and also protect the Constitution."

The Minister acknowledged the excellent command and professionalism exhibited by Lt. Gen S.K. Obeng, the immediate past CDS, and his Service Chiefs and thanked them for their contribution to the rising image of the Ghana Armed Forces both internally and internationally.

He also thanked them for the great strides the Armed Forces have made in civil-military relations and encouraged the new Command to continue to strengthen this bond.

Maj Gen Danquah thanked the Government and Ghanaians for the honour done them for their appointments and promotions bestowed on them by placing the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces in their hands. "We have resolved to work as a professional team to ensure that the very high standards set by our predecessors are maintained and even improved upon.
