Walewale constituency stands at a critical juncture.

The question looms large: who will step up to rescue our beloved constituency from the injustices that threaten to sink our hopes and aspirations?

As we reflect on the current challenges, it is essential to highlight the pressing need for authority within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to address the grievances surrounding the candidacy of Dr. KB Mahama.

Dr. Mahama, a dedicated son of the late noble servant of the NPP, has emerged as a symbol of hope and resilience for the people of Walewale. His father’s unwavering commitment to the party during its nascent days laid a foundation that many still stand upon. Yet today, despite a clear victory in the electoral process, Dr. Mahama faces opposition from within the party—an opposition that appears to disregard the democratic will of the people he seeks to represent.

The contrast between the party's handling of the election dispute in Yendi and the current situation in Walewale is stark. In Yendi, the party swiftly endorsed Hon. Farouk Aliu as the parliamentary candidate, without adhering to the principles of due process through the electoral commission and even under challenging circumstances. So why the disparity in Walewale? Is it a reluctance to acknowledge results that diverged from certain expectations, or is it a deeper issue rooted in class and connections?

It is disheartening to observe that those in power today include individuals who once aligned themselves with the erstwhile PNDC and NDC, wielding influence as members of the political elite. These individuals, whose families were once revered in the constituency, seem to have forgotten the fundamental values that underpin our democratic process. They overlook the truth that education and merit should be the driving forces in politics—not lineage or social standing. Dr. KB Mahama’s candidacy represents a powerful narrative of perseverance.

He embodies the spirit of countless young people from humble backgrounds who have worked tirelessly to rise above their circumstances. His success should serve as a testament to the idea that education and hard work can indeed bridge the gap between rich and poor. The endorsement of Dr. Mahama by the people of Walewale is not merely a vote for a candidate; it is a resounding affirmation that the voices of the marginalized must be heard and respected. To deny Dr. Mahama the opportunity to serve is to undermine the aspirations of an entire generation.

Any injustice meted out against him is an injustice against the youth of Walewale and the lower classes who have long been silenced. It is a violation of the democratic principles that our party holds dear. We must recognize that Dr. Mahama represents not just his family’s legacy but also the collective hope of a constituency eager for change. As we look to the future, it is crucial for the leadership of the NPP and all well-meaning individuals from Mamprugu to unite in support of Dr. KB Mahama. He is not only a candidate; he is the light that can guide the political future of Mamprugu.

With his determination and vision, he has the potential to become a significant player on the national stage. The time has come for us to set aside personal ambitions and unite for the greater good of Walewale and Mamprugu. We must demand justice for Dr. KB Mahama, recognizing that his fight is our fight. It is a fight for the future, a fight for equity, and a fight for the voices of the people to be heard. Together, let us ensure that the promise of democracy is fulfilled in our constituency and that the dreams of our youth are not extinguished but ignited.
