A letter to President Mills Part 1

…Mr. Rawlings is a major national security treat please watch him closely.

From the Diaries of Kweku Objective

Dear Mr. President I am writing to congratulate you for not yielding to the wild demands of Chairman Rawlings but will ask you watch Mr. Rawlings closely. If history is anything to go by we will realise that ex-President Rawlings finds it very difficult to submit to authority. He also finds it difficult to appreciate what others are doing if he is not in control. In 1981 when Mr. Rawlings handed over power to Dr. Hilla Limman he started casting doubts about the effectiveness of the Limman government to deliver and this resulted in the senseless coup of 31st December 1981.

When the NPP took over power in 2001 he started these same old tricks but fortunately for Ghana, the ex-President Kufuor administration acted swiftly and removed certain diplomatic privileges due him and also banned certain key Rawlings ex-military loyalists from strategic military establishments. At the time, some people complained about those actions taken by the ex-government but I think with what is happening now, even some staunch and forward thinking NDC functionaries are calling for the same measures to be taken against Mr. Rawlings by the President. Ever since President Mills took over power from the erstwhile NPP government, Mr. Rawlings has been roaring out loud against the man he backed to lead his NDC out of the political wilderness. He has never ceased to try and make the government look unpopular in the eyes of the populace.

Just last weekend there was a purported meeting between Mr. Rawlings and some security capos at the Jubilee House. Even though it has been denied I hope the full truth comes out shortly. Mr. President please opens your eyes and don’t allow Rawlings any space around our major military establishments. He will try everything to distract your effort in order to make you unpopular which can make it easier to get his ‘yes-men’ in. I pray for you and for Ghana that God will help you to rule well without any disruption. Also keep a close eye on some of the key guys who are singing for Rawlings. The way things are going I can see a heated battle for power in the NDC before the 2012 elections but my main interest is with Ghana and I would be very glad to see someone call Rawlings to order without fear or favour. He didn’t make you President God gave you to Ghana and the people voted for you. For the good of Ghana please be very vigilant than ever.

I hope my letter reaches you. Thanks.

Yours truly,

Kweku Objective.
