African Americans: A Ghanaian Perspective

Sun, 11 Dec 2011 Source: The Emperor

I have never been keen on the American presidential race. Simply because; I don't live in America. So, I don't have a horse in her race. In fact, the last time that I even bothered was when Barack Obama was running. Now, there was something peculiar about Obama's candidacy — which cannot go unmentioned. From the word go, the odds seemed to be in his favor. Very unusual for a Black presidential candidate — to say the least. In brief, Black and White America loved him. And so, we knew that Obama had the potential to become America's first Black president. The probability wasn’t that far off, nor was it a dreamer’s dream! Of course, we Black folks got very excited. Obama had our support to the fullest. We cheered him on — and he got elected. The rest, as they say, is history!

Obama presidency hasn't been what most of us envisioned it to be. No! Ever since his presidency — the world has become more dangerous than ever before. Mind you, Barack Obama was awarded the Noble Peace Prize, when he came to Office. What a great disappointment he has turned out to be! Not only has he become a pathological liar, he has also become an assassin. Barack Obama has become more bloodier a warmonger than his predecessor, George Bush, Jr — the war criminal. In fact, those two seem to have the same foreign policy — which is nothing more than the expansion of the American empire at all costs. Hence, the wars and invasions being pursued all over the world with the help of NATO. Obama seems to have lost his sense of direction! Oh, the poor fellow. He cannot even get the American economy right with all his PhD advisors — and this is where Herman Cain comes in.

Herman Cain is an astute businessman who went into politics for one thing; to do things differently! As a patriot, he wants to get America up and running again. And, does he know how? Yes, he does! However, the attacks have been unrelenting ever since he announced his candidacy. The focus hasn't been on his brilliance or message. It has been diverted! Instead, baseless accusations and cheap politics have taken centre stage to what really matters. I weep for this man! It seems to me that America doesn't want to give this Black American man a chance. Simply because; she knows that Herman Cain, if given a chance — could become her next Black president. Perhaps, it's time for Herman Cain to sail across the sea to Africa — the Motherland. His brilliant entrepreneurial skills and political know-how would benefit the Black continent immensely. I am certain of it! And, why not? It’s not an unrealistic expectation!

Ghana and the rest of the African countries are slowly developing! However, in order for Africa to catch up with the rest of the developed world, African-Americans — who have made it in science, business, politics, sports, medicine and in the entertainment world — would've to help her. The likes of Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Dr Ben Carson, T. West, Tavis Smiley, Dr Cornel West — together with the many African-American technocrats and constructors — could truly propel Africa into great heights. Mind you, Africans cannot depend on the Europeans or the Chinese to develop Africa for Africans. Africans must develop Africa by and for themselves! We Africans cannot expose our continent to recolonization by asking the Chinese or the Europeans for help. It would be a terrible mistake to commit!

African-Americans shouldn’t stay in America and become redundant to America. America doesn't need them anymore! Pharaoh has set them free. The likes of Herman Cain, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson — together with America’s Black millionaires and billionaires — are just wasting their time in America. They need to return to help build Africa — the land of the free — with their technological know-how, skills and expertise. After all, they are still Africans. Therefore, Africa’s ascension should be their first priority. In fact, Africa’s ascension should be the concern of all Black people. Unless African-Americans no longer see themselves as such. Now, I know that Blacks — especially those in the Caribbean and North America — are ashamed of Africa. And, who is to blame? We Africans, of course. Who else? We have given them absolutely no reason why they should be proud! Our actions on the continent have humiliated Black people all over the world. We have turned the Motherland into a land of shame. So, I do understand why some of them feel the way that they do about Africa. Mind you, nobody wants to be associated with a disgraceful people. It’s simple as that. We Africans need to do better — for we can do better! Let’s dream of greatness until it becomes our lives. Remember, to whom much is given — much is expected.

PS: This article would be my last for this year. Take care of yourselves!
